The British Chamber of Commerce in Japan （在日英国商業会議所）主催のBritish Business Awards 2025。ヒルトン東京にて。

審査員を務めさせていただきました。

日英に橋を架ける多くの企業のことを学ぶことができたのが最大の収穫でした。各企業について細かな項目をひとつひとつ確認、採点していく審査には述べ48時間ほどかかったのですが、本当にやりがいがありました。

「責任」と「倫理」をいかに企業文化として根付かせているか？　それをどのように美として世界に発信して社会的な影響力をもたらしているのか？という点に今年の重点があったという印象です。

授賞式当日は日英ビジネスの関係者375名ほどのご参加があり、大盛況でした。審査員の役得？で、ディナーでは駐日英国大使ジュリア・ロングボトムさんご夫妻、BCCJ会頭のリチャード・ライルさんご夫妻らと同席させていただき、光栄でした。

右が英国系企業で長く社長を務めてきた森潤子さん。帯の後ろをお見せできないのが残念なのですが、それはそれはすばらしいお着物で、帯には、ロンドン橋の柄が織り込まれています。森潤子さんは大学ESS同期で、現在の駐英大使、鈴木浩さんも同期です。私が着用しているオッドベストは豊橋のSyuhariさん。

I had the honor of serving as one of the judges this year.

The greatest reward was learning about the many companies that are building bridges between Japan and the UK. The judging process involved carefully reviewing and scoring each criterion for every nominee — a task that took roughly 48 hours in total, but one that was truly fulfilling.

This year’s focus, as I perceived it, was on how companies embed responsibility and ethics into their corporate culture — and how they express these values as a form of beauty to the world.

At the awards ceremony, around 375 guests from the Japan–UK business community attended, making it a resounding success. As one of the judges, I had the privilege of being seated at dinner with Her Excellency Julia Longbottom, the British Ambassador to Japan, and her husband, as well as BCCJ President Richard Lyle and his wife — a truly memorable honor.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, and in particular to Junko Mori, who kindly recommended me for the judging panel.
