「Precious」６月号発売です。レース特集の巻頭で「レースが紡ぐ美と社会の物語」を見開き２ページにわたり書きました。

歴史的にラグジュアリーの象徴とされてきた装飾的な布ではありますが、であるからこそ、社会情勢の影響をもろに受けてきました。

奢侈禁止令の対象となり、フランス革命では迫害され、産業革命では階級闘争を激化させ、アイルランド飢饉を救い、現在のかわりゆく価値観のなかで再発見されています。レースを通して読む歴史、ほんとうに駆け足ではありますが、お楽しみいただけたら幸いです。

I contributed a two-page feature at the beginning of the lace special, titled “The Story of Lace: Where Beauty and Society Intertwine.”

Historically seen as a symbol of luxury, lace has always been deeply intertwined with social and political shifts.

Lace was once targeted by sumptuary laws, persecuted during the French Revolution, intensified class conflict during the Industrial Revolution, helped alleviate the Irish Famine, and today—amid shifting values—is being redefined as a warm, handcrafted expression, evolving in collaboration with technology.

Today, as our values evolve, lace is being rediscovered—not just as a nostalgic craft, but as a warm, human expression that continues to evolve in dialogue with technology.
