クワイエットラグジュアリーへの反動からでしょうか、今シーズンはレースが華やか。

手間暇がかかり、高い技術を要する稀少品であったこともあり レースはラグジュアリーの象徴でもありました。それゆえに、階級とラグジュアリーが結びついていた時代には 迫害にもあうなど、社会変動の影響を受けやすかったのがレース。

そんなレースと社会との関係の歴史を、ざっくりと書いてみました。Precious本誌に掲載された記事がウェブに転載されました。

Perhaps as a reaction to the quiet luxury trend, lace is making a dazzling comeback this season.

Lace has long been a symbol of luxury, not only for its delicate beauty but also because of the immense time, labor, and skill required to produce it.

Precisely for that reason, in eras when luxury was closely tied to social class, lace was particularly vulnerable to persecution and upheaval during times of social change.

In this piece, I’ve offered a brief overview of the historical relationship between lace and society.
