新時代のエレガンスとは？　25ans 12月号に寄稿しました

45周年を迎えた「25ans」の巻頭リレーエッセイ「新時代のエレガンスとは？」。12月号でアンカーを務めさせていただきました。

創刊時は「赤文字系」雑誌全盛でした。レイアウトぎゅうぎゅうで学生モデルをつめこんだアレです。もはやそれらはほぼ全滅。

45年間「異端としてのエレガンスの王道」を貫いて盤石の支持を築いている雑誌はレアです。トレンドに易々と乗らないこともまた持続の秘訣、でしょうか。

45年前はただの熱心な一読者でした。それがやがて書き手として場を与えていただき、いくつもの連載の機会をいただき、45年後にはこのような責任ある機会を与えていただいていることに深く感謝します。

The 45th-Anniversary Issue of 25ans features a lead relay essay titled “What Is Elegance in the New Era?”, and I had the honor of serving as the anchor writer for the December issue.

When the magazine was first launched, the era of so-called “red-letter magazines” (akamojikei) was in full swing — pages packed with text and student models. Those magazines have mostly disappeared today.

It’s rare for a publication to have maintained such unwavering support for forty-five years by steadfastly upholding the royal road of elegance as a beautiful outsider. Perhaps the secret to its longevity lies in never chasing trends too easily, but rather staying true to its core.

Forty-five years ago, I was merely an avid reader. Since then, I’ve been given the opportunity to write, to contribute to many series, and now, after all these years, to take on such a meaningful and responsible role — something for which I feel deeply grateful.
